Dressing For The Days Ahead

August 23, 2026 / By Amy Nelson

Summer is almost behind us, and for many of us, this is a season of transition—busy days filled with client meetings, back-to-school orientations, dinners, travel and settling back into our routines.

For a woman on the go, getting dressed needs to feel effortless. The best pieces are the ones that can take you from one part of your day to the next without requiring a wardrobe change—or sacrificing personal style along the way.

And, of course, the shoes have to keep up.

TFR Shoes are designed with exactly that kind of movement in mind: sophisticated enough to pull a look together, comfortable enough for a full day on your feet, and versatile enough to work with what you already own.

With that in mind, I styled three looks for the transition out of summer:

HELENE in Chocolate: Off-Duty, Pulled Together

Not every busy day calls for a dress or tailored skirt. Sometimes you want to be comfortable and casual while still looking considered.

For HELENE in Chocolate, I paired a striped Joe’s Jeans tee with fluid navy trousers from Callas Milano. The chocolate shoe gives the relaxed pieces a polished foundation, while an Ulla Johnson bag and simple jewelry from Laura Pearce and Wolf & Badger finish the look.

I especially love the combination of chocolate, navy and burgundy. It hints at fall without feeling too heavy for the weather right now.

And it proves something I tell women often: comfortable doesn’t have to mean casual, and polished doesn’t have to mean complicated.

HELENE in Mocha Serpente: Make the Shoe the Interesting Part

When your schedule is full, a few beautifully chosen pieces can do most of the work for you.

For HELENE in Mocha Serpente, I started with an easy combination of a soft pink Reiss blouse and an ivory M.M.LaFleur skirt. A taupe Strathberry bag and delicate jewelry from Oscar de la Renta and Chan Luu keep the palette light and refined.

Then comes the shoe.

The subtle snakeskin of HELENE brings pattern and personality to the look without overwhelming it. I love using animal print this way—as a neutral with a little more character.

It’s an easy formula to repeat with pieces already in your closet: soft neutrals + one unexpected element.

MARIE in Black: Polished, Without Trying Too Hard

There are few things more useful in a wardrobe than a great black shoe, but MARIE in Black feels anything but basic.

I paired it with a sleeveless Proenza Schouler dress in a rich neutral palette. The silhouette is polished enough for a meeting or dinner, while the bare arms and slingback keep it appropriate for these still-warm days.

A snakeskin Amanu bag adds texture, while sculptural jewelry from Sophie Buhai and Monies and Oliver Peoples sunglasses keep the look modern and understated.

This is the kind of outfit I love for transitional dressing: simple, sophisticated and ready for wherever the day takes you.

Dressing for Real Life

The transition into fall doesn’t require reinventing your wardrobe. Often, it’s simply about looking at what you already own in a new way—introducing a richer color, adding texture or changing the shoes.

Because our wardrobes should work the way our lives do: moving easily between roles, places and plans.

The goal isn’t to create the perfect outfit for one moment.

It’s to create a look that can keep pace with all of them.
